REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Do not oil threads that require oil resistant or water resistant sealer.

When installing nuts or bolts, oil the threads with light-weight engine oil.

Oil Pan

Removal

  1. Drain engine oil.
  1. Remove engine assembly as outlined.
  1. Mount engine on a suitable engine stand. Do not rotate engine stand upside down so that debris and/or sediment will not be circulated back into engine.
  1. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and remove oil pan.
  1. Rotate engine stand with oil pan facing up.
  1. Remove oil pan gasket and thoroughly clean engine and oil pan gasket surfaces.

Installation

  1. Wipe six oil pan rail locations as shown with solvent M5B58A or equivalent soaked cloth to remove oil. Apply Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-BA (ESE-M4G 195-A), or equivalent in six locations.
  1. Install new oil pan gasket to oil pan and position oil pan to engine so transmission mounting face of oil pan is aligned with and square to engine block rear face.

NOTE: Do not allow sealer to age longer than two minutes prior to oil pan installation or total five minutes before bolts are tightened to specifications.

  1. Install and tighten oil pan retaining bolts to 13.5-16.5 Nm (120-146 lb-in).

NOTE: The transmission bolts to engine and oil pan, so it is important to reinstall spacers if they were included with engine assembly. Not all engines require spacers.

  1. With oil pan installed on engine, position a straight edge flat on rear of engine block so that it extends over one of the oil pan/transmission bolt mounting pads.
  1. Measure gap between mounting pads and straight edge using a feeler gauge. Repeat procedure for other mounting pad. All assemblies that gauge 0.000-0.010 inch are acceptable.

NOTE: Service all assemblies that exceed 0.010 inch using appropriate spacers on one or both sides of oil pan.

CAUTION: Failure to reinstall spacer can result in insufficient, or excess clearance between engine oil pan and transmission, when installed in vehicle. This can result in oil pan damage, and/or leak.

  1. Install spacers to mounting pads and the rear of oil pan before bolting engine and transmission together.
  1. Tighten oil pan transmission bolts to 40-54 Nm (30-39 lb-ft).
  1. Add engine oil filter and oil.
  1. Install engine assembly.
