REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

 CAUTION: Do not oil threads that require oil resistant or water resistant sealer.

When installing nuts or bolts, oil the threads with light-weight engine oil.

Valve Rocker Arm (Cam Follower) and Hydraulic Lash Adjuster

Tools Required

 

Removal

  1. Remove valve rocker arm cover and associated parts as required.
  1. Rotate camshaft so that the base circle of the cam is facing the applicable cam follower.
  1. Using Valve Spring Compressor T88T-6565-BH, compress the lash adjuster as required and/or depress the valve spring if necessary and slide the cam follower over the lash adjuster and out.
  1. Lift out the hydraulic lash adjuster.



 

Installation

  1. Rotate camshaft so that the base circle of the cam is facing the applicable cam follower.
  1. Place hydraulic lash adjuster in position in the bore.
  1. Using Valve Spring Compressor T88T-6565-BH, compress the lash adjuster as necessary to position the cam follower over the lash adjuster and the valve stem.
  1. Before rotating the camshaft to the next position, ensure the lash adjuster just installed is fully compressed and released.
  1. Clean the gasket surfaces of the valve cover and cylinder head.
  1. Install the valve cover gasket to cylinder head. Ensure holes are aligned and install cover.
  1. Install eight screws and tighten to 7-11 Nm (62-97 lb-in).
  1. Install the air cleaner and all other components removed.
  1. Run the engine at fast idle and check for oil leaks.
