Hood Latch and Hood Latch Control Cable

Removal

1. From inside the vehicle, open the hood.

2. Remove the two hood latch assembly retaining bolts. Remove hood latch cable retainer screw. Disengage cable and remove hood latch assembly.

3. To facilitate installing cable, fasten a "fish line" about 2.5m (8 feet) long to cable.

4. From inside vehicle, unseat sealing grommet from cowl side, remove cable mounting bracket retaining screws and carefully pull cable assembly out. Do not pull fish line out.

Installation

1. Using previously installed "fish line", pull new cable assembly through retaining wall, seat grommet securely, and install cable mounting bracket retaining screws.

2. Thread terminal end of cable into hood latch assembly return spring.

3. Rotate cable through latch V-slot, position cable retainer to latch and install screw.

4. Position hood latch assembly and install two retaining bolts. Adjust latch assembly and tighten retaining bolts to 8-15 Nm (6-11 lb-ft).

5. Close hood and verify correct latch adjustment.

6. If hood closing efforts and inside hood release efforts are too high, adjust the hood latch assembly upward and/or the hood bumpers downward.
