REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Door Latch

 

Removal

  1. Remove trim panel and watershield from door. Refer to Section 01-05.
  1. Disconnect the outside release rod from the latch and remove anti-theft shield from the latch.
  1. Check all rod connections against the appropriate illustration. Correct any misconnected or loose connections and check operation before replacing parts.
  1. Disconnect the rods from the latch. The remote link and the latch-to-lock cylinder rod cannot be removed because of the rod's end configuration.
  1. Remove lock cylinder rod from the lock cylinder lever.
  1. Remove remote control.
  1. Remove the latch assembly retaining screws. Disconnect the door ajar and illuminated entry indicator switch wires, if so equipped. Remove the latch from the door.
  1. Remove remote link, latch-to-lock cylinder rods, and door indicator switches from latch, where applicable.
 

Installation

  1. Position door ajar and illuminated entry indicator switches to the latch. Install retaining screw. Adjust switches.
  1. Install new rod retaining clips and grommets in new latch assembly, using the removed latch as a guide.
  1. Install remote link and the latch-to-lock cylinder rod.
  1. Position latch in the door and connect the wire to the door ajar and illuminated entry indicator switches. Install the latch retaining screws. Tighten to 4-8 Nm (3-6 lb-ft).
  1. Install door latch remote control.
  1. Connect the latch-to-lock cylinder rod to the lock cylinder lever.
  1. Connect the rods (except outside release rod) to the latch that were disconnected for removal. Check the latch operation.
  1. Install the anti-theft shield. Connect outside release rod and check latch operation.
  1. Install watershield and trim panel on the door. Refer to Section 01-05.
