REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Head Restraint, Front Seat

Removal

  1. On vehicles without a seat back rear trim panel, insert a 305mm (12 inch) length of thin, flat stock into the sleeve at the front side of the post. Hold the spring clip out of the detent while withdrawing the head restraint.
  1. On vehicles with front seat back rear trim panel, remove the head restraint by removing the trim panel and inserting a screwdriver through the access hole in the seat back frame to release spring clip. Pull out head restraint.

NOTE: It may be necessary to trip the locking tab on the guide sleeve to remove it from the bracket. Insert a short piece of wire with a hooked end into the sleeve. Hook onto the locking tab and pull it in.

  1. Remove the guide sleeve by pulling the sleeve out of the mounting bracket.

Installation

  1. Install the head restraint by inserting the sleeve into the seat back flush with the top of the trim cover (open end of sleeve faces forward).
  1. Install head restraint into sleeve (groove on head restraint shaft faces forward) into sleeve in the seat back.
  1. Adjust by applying hand pressure, either up or down, to the center of the head restraint assembly.

NOTE: The head restraint must operate smoothly throughout its range of travel, must remain in any fixed position, and must not be freely removable from the seat back. If any of these conditions are not met, check for proper installation of positioning spring into sleeve.
