Always flush the power steering gear when replacing the pump due to fluid
contamination.
Remove the pump and pulley, and service the pump. Refer to Section 11-02.
Install the pulley on the serviced pump. Install the pump. Flush the
pressure line before installing. Connect only the pressure hose.
Place the fluid return line from the gear in a container, and plug the
reservoir return line.
Fill the reservoir with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA
(ESW-M2C33-F) or equivalent.
Disconnect ignition coil wire and raise the front wheel off the ground.
Make sure vehicle is not in gear, refer to Section 00-02.
While adding approximately 1.9 liters (0.5 gallon) of fluid, turn the
ignition to the ON position (using the ignition key) and crank the engine with
the starter while turning the steering wheel from left to right.
When all the fluid has been added, turn ignition to the OFF position and
connect the ignition coil wire.
Remove the plug from the reservoir return line and attach the line to the
reservoir.
Check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. Do not
overfill the reservoir.
Lower the vehicle.
Turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock without hitting the stops to
expel any trapped air.
