Accelerator Cable

Removal and Installation

1. Remove the air cleaner assembly, if necessary. Refer to Section 03-12.

2. Using a suitable tool, push the accelerator cable nylon bushing out of the accelerator pedal arm.

3. Remove the body insulation retainer from the cable housing. The retainer is located inside the vehicle where the housing passes through the dash panel into the passenger compartment.

4. Disconnect the accelerator cable at the throttle body throttle lever by inserting a screwdriver between the cable and the throttle lever and giving a twist.

5. Remove the cable housing to engine mounting bracket retaining screw.

6. Remove the cable housing to the dash panel retaining screws and housing.

7. To install, reverse Removal procedure and ensure body insulator retainer is pushed 6.35mm (1/4 inch) onto housing. Be sure cable moves freely.

   Refer to Diagnosis for diagnosis of the accelerator pedal after the disconnection of the accelerator cable from the throttle body throttle lever ball stud. Disconnect cruise control from the accelerator cable, if so equipped.
