Shifter Interlock Cable

 

Removal and Installation

  1. Remove console. Refer to Section 01-12.
  1. Remove LH lower instrument panel trim and steering column lower shroud.
  1. Remove interlock cable retaining screw and disconnect cable from shift lever cam.
  1. Remove steering column retaining nuts and lower column to floor.
  1. Remove cable retaining clip. Disconnect electrical connector at solenoid.
  1. Remove cable retaining screw from steering column.
  1. Guide interlock cable out from under console brackets.
  1. To install, reverse Steps 1 through 8. Tighten steering column retaining nuts to 34-46 Nm (25-34 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten cable retaining screw at steering column to 3.1-4.3 Nm (27-38 lb-in) and at shifter to 1.6-2.2 Nm (14-19 lb-in).
  1. Test for proper operation. The ignition key should only be removable with the shift lever in PARK. The shifter should be locked in PARK with the key removed. The shifter should also be locked in PARK with the ignition key in the ON position, and be released when the service brakes are applied.
