Extension Housing Seal

Tools Required:

• Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A
• Bench Mounted Holding Fixture T57L-500-B
• Extension Housing Seal Replacer T61L-7657-A
• Seal Remover TOOL-1175-AC

Removal

1. Remove transmission as outlined.

2. Mount transmission in Bench Mounted Holding Fixture T57L-500-B.

3. Using a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and extension, remove drain plug located on the lower RH side of the transmission case.
   
   
   
   

4. Position shift lever in the NEUTRAL detent. Remove shift lever/turret cover assembly retaining bolts using a 13mm socket.
   
   
   
   

5. Using a suitable pry bar, break the turret cover-to-extension housing seal by carefully prying between the housing and cover. Remove the assembly.
   
   
   
   

    CAUTION: Do not attempt to remove the offset lever while the extension housing is bolted in place. A lug, located on the bottom of the lever, meshes with the detent plate preventing enough rearward movement of the lever to allow removal.

6. Using a 5mm (3/16-inch) pin punch and hammer, remove roll pin retaining offset lever to shifter shaft.
   
   
   
   

7. Using a 15mm socket, remove the eight extension housing retaining bolts.
   
   
   
   

8. Using a suitable pry bar, break the extension housing-to-case seal by carefully prying between the housing and case.
   
   
   
   

9. Remove seal from extension housing with Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A and Seal Remover TOOL-1175-AC or equivalent.
   
   
   
   

Installation

1. Apply a 3.2mm (1/8 inch) bead of Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or BA (ESB-M4G92-A and ESE-M4G195-A) or equivalent on the extension housing-to-transmission mating surface.
   
   
   
   

2. Coat detent spring with petroleum jelly and install in the offset lever.

3. Lubricate detent plate and install detent ball in the NEUTRAL position on the plate.
   
   
   
   

4. Position offset lever in extension housing with spring over detent ball.

5. Slide lever and housing into position as an assembly.
   
   
   
   

6. Press downward on the offset lever to compress the detent spring and push the lever and housing into position.

7. Install extension housing retaining bolts. Tighten to 47-61 Nm (30-45 lb-ft).

8. Using a suitable pin punch, align the hole in the shifter shaft with the hole in offset lever and install the roll pin.

9. Install damper sleeve in offset lever.

10. Apply a 3.2mm (1/8 inch) bead of Silicone Rubber D6AZ-19562-AA or BA (ESB-M4G92-A and ESE-M4G195-A) or equivalent on the turret cover.

11. Position turret cover on extension housing and install retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 17-20 Nm (12-15 lb-ft).

12. Install drain plug. Tighten to 17-29 Nm (12-22 lb-ft).

13. Install a new extension seal using Extension Housing Seal Replacer T61L-7657-A.
    
    
    
    

14. Install transmission as outlined.
