The diaphragm-type brake booster is self-contained and is mounted on the engine side of the dash panel. The vacuum brake booster uses engine intake manifold vacuum and atmospheric pressure for its power.
Adjustment of the push rod and replacement of the check valve are the only services permitted on the brake booster. This push rod can only be checked using the MAX-MIN push rod gauge. If the push rod is not within the prescribed limits, and push rod is not adjustable, a new booster must be installed.
If any brake booster is damaged or inoperative, replace it with a new booster. The brake booster (excluding the check valve) is serviced only as an assembly.
