REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Brake Shoe and Lining

 

Tools Required:

 

Removal

  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
  1. Remove screw retaining brake hose bracket to shock absorber bracket.
  1. Remove retaining clip from parking brake cable at caliper. Remove cable end from parking brake lever.
  1. Hold slider pin hex-heads with open-end wrench. Remove upper pinch bolt. Loosen, but do not remove, lower pinch bolt.
  1. Rotate caliper away from rotor.



  1. Remove inner and outer brake shoes and anti-rattle clips (springs) from anchor plate.
 

Installation

NOTE: Ensure that one of the two slots in piston face is positioned so it will engage nib on brake shoe.

  1. Using Rear Caliper Piston Adjuster T87P-2588-A, rotate piston clockwise until it is fully seated.







  1. Insert the anti-rattle clips/springs and install inner and outer brake shoes on anchor plate.
  1. Rotate caliper assembly over rotor into position on anchor plate. Ensure that brake shoes and anti-rattle springs are installed correctly.
  1. Apply Threadlock Sealer E0AZ-19554-A (ESE-M4G204-A) or equivalent to upper pinch bolt threads. Install bolt and tighten pinch bolt to 40-47 Nm (30-35 lb-ft) while holding slider pins with an open-end wrench.
  1. Attach cable end to parking brake lever. Install cable retaining clip on caliper assembly. Tighten screw to 40-50 Nm (30-37 lb-ft).
  1. Install wheel and tire assembly. Tighten wheel lug nuts to 109-142 Nm (80-105 lb-ft).
  1. Lower vehicle.
