Remove the wheel and brake drum. Disconnect the brake line from the brake
cylinder.
Remove the brake shoes, adjuster assemblies and the wheel cylinder.
Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Group 05.
Remove the backing plate.
Installation
The rear backing plate is mounted on the axle housing flange with four
bolts. Tighten to 28-54 Nm (20-39 lb-ft).
Install the rear axle shaft, seal, if required, and the new backing plate.
Refer to Group 05.
Install the wheel cylinder, and connect the brake line as indicated in
preceding Steps.
Install the brake shoes adjuster assemblies. Connect the parking brake
cable to the lever.
NOTE: Whenever rear brake linings are removed, the parking brake cable tension
should be checked. Refer to Section 06-05 and adjust as required.
Adjust the brake shoes, and install the brake drums and wheels. Bleed the
brake system, and centralize the pressure differential valve as outlined in
Section 06-00.
