REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Wheel Cylinder

 

Removal

  1. Remove the wheel and brake drum as outlined.
  1. Remove the brake shoe assemblies.
  1. Disconnect the brake tube from the brake cylinder at the backing plate. The tube will separate from the cylinder when the cylinder is removed from the backing plate.

    NOTE: Use caution to prevent brake fluid from contacting brake linings or they must be replaced.

  1. Remove the wheel cylinder retaining bolts and remove the cylinder.
 

Installation

Wipe the end(s) of the hydraulic line to remove any foreign matter before making connections.

  1. Position the cylinder on the backing plate, and finger-tighten the brake tube to the cylinder.
  1. Secure the cylinder to the backing plate by installing the retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to 14-28 Nm (10-20 lb-ft).
  1. Tighten the tube fitting nut to 14-24 Nm (10-17 lb-ft) using a tube nut wrench.
  1. Install the shoes and adjuster assemblies.
  1. Adjust the brakes. Install the brake drum and wheel. Bleed the brakes.
