REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Control Arm, Lower

Tools Required:

 

Removal

NOTE: If one arm requires replacement, replace the other arm also. If vehicle is equipped with rear stabilizer bar, remove bar.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist and support body at rear crossmember. Refer to Section 00-02.
  1. Lower the hoist until the rear shocks are fully extended.

    NOTE: The axle must be supported by the hoist, a transmission jack, or jackstands.

  1. Place a transmission jack under the lower arm-to-axle pivot bolt. Remove and discard the bolt and nut. Lower the transmission jack slowly until the coil spring can be removed.
  1. Remove and discard the lower arm-to-frame pivot bolt and nut. Remove the lower arm assembly.
 

Installation

  1. Position the lower arm assembly into the front arm bracket. Insert a new, arm-to-frame pivot bolt and nut with nut facing outwards. Do not tighten at this time.
  1. Install coil spring. Holding the spring in position, use the transmission jack under the rear of the lower arm. Raise the jack until the arm is in position. Insert a new, arm-to-axle pivot bolt and nut with nut facing outward. Do not tighten at this time.
  1. Lower the transmission jack. Raise the axle with the hoist to curb height. Tighten the lower arm front bolt to 104-142 Nm (77-105 lb-ft), and the rear pivot bolt to 95-135 Nm (70-100 lb-ft).
  1. If vehicle is equipped with a rear stabilizer bar, install bar as outlined.
  1. Remove crossmember supports, and lower vehicle.
