Section 04-01: Suspension and Wheel Ends, Front | 1993 Mustang Workshop Manual |
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
CAUTION: All front suspension fasteners are important attaching parts in that
they could affect the performance of vital parts and systems, and/or could
result in major service expense. Any part must be replaced with one of the same
part number or with an exact equivalent part if replacement becomes necessary.
Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque
values must be used as specified during assembly to ensure proper retention of
this part.
Never attempt to heat, quench or straighten any front suspension part.
Replace with a new part.
Stabilizer Bar and/or Insulator
Removal
- Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02.
- Disconnect the stabilizer from each stabilizer link and both stabilizer
insulator mounting clamps. Remove the stabilizer bar assembly.
- Remove the adapter brackets from the clamps.
- Cut the worn insulators from the stabilizer bar.
Installation
- Coat the necessary parts of the stabilizer bar and the inside diameter of
the stabilizer bar insulator with Rubber Suspension Insulator Lube E25Y-19553-A
(ESF-M99B112-A) or equivalent and slide insulators onto the stabilizer bar.
- Install adapter brackets on clamps.
- Using a new nut and bolt, secure each end of the stabilizer bar to the
lower suspension arm. Tighten nuts to 11-20 Nm (9-14 lb-ft).
- Using new bolts, clamp the stabilizer bar to the mounting brackets on the
side rail. Tighten bolts to 50-68 Nm (37-50 lb-ft).
