Section 03-12: Air Intake System | 1993 Mustang Workshop Manual |
All engines are equipped with dry-type air cleaners with replaceable air filter elements. The air cleaner assembly is attached to bracket on the RH fender apron.
On 2.3L multiport fuel injection (MFI) engines, the air cleaner tray assembly is attached to a cold air intake that picks up air from the front of the vehicle next to the radiator and to a heat shroud around the exhaust manifold through a flexible rubber tube. Airflow through these two sources is controlled by a "door" in the air cleaner operated by a vacuum motor. Operation of the motor is controlled by a temperature sensor mounted in the air cleaner assembly.
