REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Cooling Fan Motor, 2.3L

 

Removal

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. Remove the fan wiring harness from the routing clip. Disconnect the wiring harness from the fan motor connector (pull up on single lock finger to separate the connectors).
  1. Remove the shroud retaining screws and remove the fan assembly from vehicle.

    NOTE: A metal burr may be present on motor after retaining clip is removed. Deburring of shaft may be required to permit fan removal.

  1. Remove the retaining clip from the end of the motor shaft and remove the fan.
  1. Remove the nuts retaining the fan motor to the shroud.
 

Installation

  1. Position the fan motor on the shroud bracket and install the retaining nuts. Tighten the retaining nuts to 5.5-7.0 Nm (49-61 lb-in).
  1. Install the fan and retaining clip on the motor shaft.
  1. Position the fan assembly in the vehicle. Install the mounting bracket retaining screws and tighten to 8.0-10.5 Nm (71-92 lb-in).
  1. Connect the motor wiring connector to the wiring harness. (Ensure the lock finger on the connector snaps firmly into place.)
  1. Connect battery ground cable.
  1. Check fan for proper operation.
