REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Transmission Insulators

 

Sedan With A4LD Transmission

NOTE: The rear support is located at the transmission extension housing. Whenever self-locking nuts are removed, they must be replaced with new self-locking nuts.

 

Removal

  1. Support transmission with a jack and a wood block. Remove nut retaining the rear insulator to the crossmember.
  1. Remove the two bolts and nuts retaining the crossmember to the body brackets. Remove the crossmember by raising the transmission slightly with the jack.
  1. Remove the two bolts retaining the rear insulator to the intermediate bracket and remove the insulator and retainer.
 

Installation

  1. Position the rear insulator and retainer on the transmission. Install the two retaining bolts and tighten to 68-95 Nm (51-70 lb-ft).
  1. Install the crossmember to the body brackets. Tighten the retaining nuts and bolts to 47-68 Nm (35-50 lb-ft).
  1. Lower the transmission and install the insulator to the crossmember retaining nut. Tighten to 88-119 Nm (65-87 lb-ft).

The rear support is located at the transmission extension housing.

 CAUTION: Whenever self-locking mounting bolts and nuts are removed, they must be replaced with new self-locking bolts and nuts.

 

Removal

  1. Support the transmission with a jack and wood block. Remove the two nuts attaching the insulator to crossmember.
  1. Remove the two bolts and nuts attaching the crossmember to the body brackets and remove the crossmember by raising the transmission slightly with the jack.
  1. Remove the two bolts attaching the rear insulator to the transmission and remove the insulator and retainer.
 

Installation

  1. Position the rear insulator and retainer on the transmission. Install the two attaching bolts. Tighten to 68-95 Nm (51-70 lb-ft).
  1. Install the crossmember-to-body through bolts. Tighten the attaching nuts to 47-68 Nm (35-50 lb-ft).
  1. Lower the transmission. Install the insulator to crossmember attaching nuts. Tighten to 34-48 Nm (26-35 lb-ft).
