Section 01-09: Mirrors, Rear View | 1993 Mustang Workshop Manual |
DIAGNOSIS
Mirrors, Power
Tools Required:
- Rotunda Digital Volt Ohmmeter 007-00001
Use the connector illustration, Switch Logic Table and the following
procedures to diagnose concerns with the power mirror.
Both RH and LH Mirrors Do Not Operate
- Check the 15 amp courtesy lamp fuse in the panel and replace if blown or
damaged.
- If fuse is OK, remove the switch assembly and check if power is available
at the harness connector to the switch using an ohmmeter such as Rotunda
Digital Volt Ohmmeter 007-00001 or equivalent across Circuits 54 (LG/Y) and 57
(BK).
- If no power, check across Circuit 54 (LG/Y) to a known good ground.
- Trace back through Circuit 54 (LG/Y) and correct the concern.
- If power is OK across Circuits 54 (LG/Y) and 58 (BK), check if switch is
damaged by jumping across appropriate circuits shown in Switch Logic Table.
- If mirrors can be operated by bypassing switch as described in Step 5, then
replace damaged switch.
Either RH or LH Mirror Does Not Operate
- Remove the door trim panel and verify that the harness is connected to the
mirror.
- Using an ohmmeter check continuity of circuits in harness connector to the
mirror by operating the switch.
- If circuit check does not show continuity, trace circuit to connector in
floor console.
- If circuit continuity and logic is correct, replace the mirror assembly.
Either RH or LH Mirror Does Not Function or Functions at Variance
With System Logic
- Remove the front door trim panel on the vehicle side experiencing the
malfunction.
- Using an ohmmeter, verify circuit logic at the harness connector to the
mirror with switch operation.
- If OK, replace mirror.
- If not OK, check if OK at switch connector.
- If OK at switch, trace along harness to determine where the cross circuitry
took place and correct.
