2.3L Engine

A rear axle pinion noise damper kit has been designed for installation.

  1. Raise vehicle on a hoist, and place jackstands under body rear crossmember.

NOTE: Before proceeding to Step 2, remove damper braces from kit. Notice that there are two long braces and one short brace. Install two long braces, and discard remaining short brace.

  1. Position damper assembly around the nose of axle casting.

NOTE: The lower half of damper assembly bracket must be flush with or slightly rearward of front lower casting boss as shown in View A.

  1. Place upper bracket over lower bracket bolts, position damper braces into holes drilled in casting reinforcement ribs and over bolts in the damper bracket. While holding damper assembly in position around nose of axle casting, alternately tighten two retaining nuts on damper bracket to obtain equal clamping. Tighten remaining two nuts that attach damper braces to casting reinforcement ribs. Tighten all four retaining nuts to 41-54 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
  1. Remove jackstands, and lower vehicle.
